About

Me

Hey, Maverick here.

I am a composer, arranger, and electronics designer specializing in the marching arts. I've been composing and arranging music professionally for 18 years. My compositions and arrangements have contributed to the success of numerous ensembles, earning medals at WGI Finals for percussion, color guard, and winds, as well as DCI Finals.

As a co-founder of Vigilantes Indoor Percussion, I served as the front ensemble coordinator, composer, and electronics designer from 2013 to 2016. We won the gold medal at WGI Championships in 2016 in the Independent Open Class, and placed third in 2015 . In 2022, I returned as the front ensemble composer/arranger and sound designer, and we made World Class Finals for the first time in the organization's history. My compositions and arrangements have propelled many ensembles to success, including Newnan High School, where I served as the percussion arranger and electronics designer. We placed second in Scholastic A Winds in both 2016 and 2017.

From 2014 to 2017 I was on staff with the Blue Devils B Drum and Bugle Corps. I was the front ensemble arranger and electronics designer in 2016 and 2017. We won the DCI Open Class Championships in 2014 and 2016, along with consecutive Best Percussion Awards. Additionally, the corps won the silver medal in 2015 and 2017.

When I joined band in my junior year of high school, I knew pretty early on that I wanted to write music for marching bands and indoor drumlines. At that time, I was very fortunate to have teachers/designers in my life like Allen Joanis and Jeff Ausdemore who gave me an idea of what was possible compositionally.

When I first tried to write music for marching percussion ensembles in high school, there was hardly any information online about it. (YouTube was maybe a year old for context) I pieced together anything I could find, paired with the few videos from film composers about DAWs, VSTs, and composition in general that I could find. From there, my process involved a lot of trial and error. Even today, that’s still true.

Originally, I had no intention to teach, coach, or critique, but it’s clear to me now that people are searching for ways to get better at writing the same way I was and still am today. I’m grateful that my work is liked and appreciated online. Many times over the years, I didn’t feel that was the case. I don’t claim to have all the answers or to be the best, but at the same time, I really want to help in ways that didn’t exist when I started. So if you decide to sign up, know that I’ll do whatever I can to help you. I most likely was or still am where you are now, and I know and understand the struggle of trying to get better.

Thanks for reading.
